the nom noms

Once upon a time, a girl went to New York City for two months.  She centered her weekends around exploring diners, bakeries, and locating the best hummus shop around.  Her roommates joined her as she walked blocks for banana split cupcakes and for the discovery of a late-night, local diner.  Au revoir, nom noms! We'll see you next weekend.

tastes of milwaukee

One of the best things about going to school close to home, besides the easy access to free laundry, is that my mother loves to take me out to lunch.  My mom and I went back in time to Watts Tea Room, her favorite childhood restaurant my great-grandmother would take her to.  We enjoyed delicious chicken salad sandwiches and an amazing chocolate coconut torte.  Milwaukee ladies, I recommend bringing your mother here for a cute, inexpensive, bonding experience.
afternoon tea starts at two p.m.
fyi: this cake was bigger at one point.
gorgeous place setting that a bride-to-be had on their gift registry.

NYC's best: FOOD

one of the biggest parts of our trip to the big city?  eating.

breakfast
H&H Bagels are the bomb.  Us Whitefish Bay-ers thought Brueggers had the bagel down to a T...we were wrong.
(81st and 2nd ave)

lunch
My mom and I's favorite place to snack in the city is located on the third floor of the men's department in Bergdorf Goodmans.  They have the best sandwiches, salads, and in particular; chicken salad.  Right on fifth ave., it's perfect to get away from the hustle on the streets.

This italian restaurant, Grotta Azzurra, is perfect for either lunch or dinner.  Located on the brink of little Italy and Soho, you can enjoy traditional gnocchi and fettucine and then do some heavy duty shopping in all the awesome boutiques in Soho.  aaaamazing.

dinner
Coming from a Persian descent, my mom and her sisters are always cooking up the family's favorite Iranian dishes. (and as my aunt says: a meal without rice is just a snack.) Although, whenever we're in New York we always hit up the Persian Restaurant, aka: Persepolis NYC.  We indulged in Saffron Chicken, Caspain- the duo of the saffron chicken and kubideh kabob, and the lamb kabob. all of which come with the best dill rice. nom nom nom!
(73rd and 2nd ave)

dessert
between the persian desserts and the many cupcakes downed- it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of my first semester of college...and the finals that came along with it!

the cupcake stands
everywhere we went, there were cupcake stands next to hot dog stands. or cupcake trucks. or cupcake stores.  my sweet tooth has never been more satisfied since we went to Crumbs- where they had the perfect holiday cupcake: the peppermint hot cocoa.  located right next to grand central station, it's a must to go. (luckily they are also located in Chicago) and whoever thought of making cupcakes go mobile,  Cupcake Stop- we point to you, they had every single kind of cupcake in sight. heaven!

montclair, NJ
we also headed down to montclair to visit family, where we had our final moment of dessert heaven.  Nutella Pies at Ah'Pizz.  They cut the pizza dough in half and inserted nutella into a full sized pie and topped it with powdered sugar.

we may of eaten a lot in NYC, but that was just the kick off to a food-filled break.  let Seattle begin!
