menswear: gentleman style

I have an exciting collaboration that was too much fun to do in one post.  Recently, @MarquetteUGent hit the twittersphere and is adored by all his followers.  Here are three essentials for summer, Marquette Gentleman-style.
MU Gent: Sperry Boat Shoes are the most comfortable and versatile shoe I own.  I wear them in the heat of summer and in the frozen Milwaukee winters.  Don't be afraid to rock them with socks in the winter and loafer socks in the summer.  If they start looking rugged with bar-tar, throw them in the wash and let them air dry for a brand-new look.
MU Gent: Bow-ties are perfect for formal or semi-formal events and can be worn with a suit, cardigan, vest or nothing extravagant.  They range from Gingham, to Plaid and solid colors.  I would advise all men to learn how to tie a bow-tie, and to not purchase a pre-tied option. (Cat: how Brad Goreski is that?!)
MU Gent: Coral is making a push this spring, especially in menswear.  These shorts are perfect with a button down, simple t-shirt, or polo.

Stay tuned for more advice by the preppy, anonymous gentlemen on campus!

cake, cake, cake

Charlie's birthday weekend was filled with chocolate (on chocolate, on chocolate), impromptu bowling, and some serious pasta.  Between surprising him with cupcakes and a trip to Indulge, dessert felt like the only way to say au revoir to his teenage years.  Here's to adulthood a new year- happy twentieth birthday, boo!
P.S. exciting posts are coming!

thirty-eighth floor

I'm starting this week off with one last announcement of my summer plans!  In less than a month, I'll be packing up my belongings wardrobe and head to New York City to intern at Cosmopolitan Magazine.  I'm so excited to intern for a magazine I idolize- and to learn from my advisor and editors.  On that note, I can't wait to share with you guys what I'm wearing, tidbits from my duties, and my daily routine!  My blog will be changing a bit, considering I want to be able to give you the scoop as much as I can. Also, thank you so much for reading.  I've hit 40,000 views and could not be more thankful!
Thank goodness for this video (and the teaching of the elevator [2:00]).
Make sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram (@kittygabel) for constant updates!

think pink

via pinterest
This summer, I believe the only way to finish an outfit is with a bold lip color.  For all you Fashionistas headed off to internships, jobs, and long days at the beach- I suggest a lip stain rather than a lipstick or gloss.  The lip stain will stay on the longest, give the best color, and allow you to jump in-and-out of the pool as much as you please! Plus- how great does it sound to just throw on waterproof mascara and a layer of bright pink to last the day!? As you lure this idea over, there will be a lip stain tutorial coming soon.

elevator speeches

(outfit one: top. pants. shoes. necklace. outfit two: skirt. shoes. necklace. lip gloss. shadow. clutch)
Last Wednesday, another university hosted a Fashion Show and seminar for students on what to wear to interviews, work, and internships.  So when they asked me to help style the show, I jumped at the opportunity!  I had so much fun styling the models and learned a lot on what's appropriate in the workplace.  As a result, for the next three weeks every Tuesday, I'll be posting a series of what to wear to your exciting job this summer!

For Interviews, don't be afraid to incorporate color and jewelry.  The company or brand wants to see the true you- so show off your sense of style!  Although, keep the hemlines long, neckline high, heels low, and cover your shoulders. Keep the make-up simple, with pinks and shadows that will help brighten face.  Lastly, carry light- but don't forget a notepad, pen, and your flawless elevator speech.

Sunday Rain

[anthropologie jacket, j.crew belt, h&m pants, cole hahn flats, kroylan lip stain]
 This outfit was perfect for today.  Relaxed, crisp and to the point- I felt like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's as it started to rain.  To add some color to the tailored pants and tee combo, I added pink lip stain and mulberry flats.

It's a Brad, Brad World

..and we're all just living in it.
 {this is the moment I realized how much I love life}
 {my new favorite Marquette Alum who is on tour with Brad Goreski. Love my FFP girls}
 {I ran into blogger Stephen Young from Stephen Style on the streets of Chicago.  He is fabulous}
{I wore a j.crew skirt, belt, and top. tory burch flats and sweater.}
I had way too much fun this week.  Between driving to Chicago and my first day at J.Crew, I'm on a high!  Chicago has only brought me good times- and yesterday was no exception.  I met Brad Goreski, author of Born to Be Brad, brand stylist for Kate Spade, and world-renowned Celebrity stylist.  Brad is a major fashion inspiration- especially within my closet and overall this season.  He wore a fabulous outfit, was so sweet to all his fans, and listened to my elevator speech.

If there is anything we can learn from Brad- stay fabulous, have fun, and don't forget your pop of color.

my daily medicine

  I have a constant reliance on chocolate- whether it's Mochas, Oreos, or Dark can count me in.  Recently I've been lucky enough that the past couple of dinner dates have ended with fondue, truffles, or [heads or tails] oreos.  (Thank you, Charlie!)  Chocolate Bars have become the rage for dates, drinks, and late-night snacking.  Which is perfect for Chocolate lovers out there- it is acceptable, if not recommended, to solely order salted dark chocolate caramels for the main course. In Milwaukee I suggest Indulge, the perfect place to dawn that new dress, or the Chocolat Bar, which is more casual.
truffle on!

dotting around

polka dottin'
Polka Dots are now becoming an obsession of mine.  I'm head over heels for mixing neons, lace, and the pattern.  The first look is so chic with the polka dot pencil skirt and hot pink eyelet top.  I also thought it would be neat to mix golds and silver, so the detailing in the necklace and the belt would contrast.  Plus how great is that bag? Tassel + Dots= instant classic. Polka Dot's are no longer a thing of the past-- it's a fun way to incorporate an easy pattern.
Happy Easter, chiclets!

be bold

 This summer be bold with prints, colors, and patterns.  Tailored pants are so chic-
 but with a print on top? even better.  Go the extra mile with your wardrobe to make this season unforgettable.

new shades

This summer, invest in some exciting new sunnies.  There's nothing better than having options with swimsuits and shades- so don't be afraid to step out of the routine Ray-Ban realm.
I indulged in a pair that isn't typical for me- I usually opt for the aviator or Ray-Ban look.
