take me home, country roads!

{J.Crew Vest, Tory Bracelets, Etoile Plaid, Gray Scarf, Tiffany's Love Bracelet, Sperry's}

As I'm starting to plan my next trip to my home state of Nebraska, I've been reminiscing on my favorite parts of the corn state. I will forever and always leave a special part of me for my Huskers and all the wonderful people I met along the way. What I do know is that I will be bringing boyfriend jeans, sperrys, and button downs as I pack for this trip.  Helloooo, Tory Burch can totally be rocked as I'm helping out on the farm. P.S. don't forget an alternative, we both know I'll be alternating between the fur and puffy vest!

NYC: Fifth Avenue.

Louis Vuitton's windows blew me away. Obviously because of the colors and animal choice. Maybe I even love the bag.

Saks Fifth Avenue of course was beautiful with little winter 'sets' in the windows.  They also had an awesome 3D light show that unfortunately, I missed.

stores you can shop till you drop

Although fifth avenue is mostly filled with expensive and luxurious stores, there are always ways to get a little something from this infamous avenue.

Forever 21: Multiple levels of every collection Forever has ever offered allow you to explore everything from night wear to fun and cute dresses that you don't always have access to at their smaller stores located in local malls.  Also, they have an entire floor dedicated for menswear.  Even the most budgeted guy can't help but indulge in some t-shirts priced at ten dollars.

H&M: I seem to sometimes hate or love this shop, depending on how messy the store is or how weird some of the styles are.  Although, lately they have had adorable dresses and perfect sweaters for winter. I even was able to get the perfect gift for the boo, after two hours of 'are you sure, cat?,' the menswear pulled through for me this year.  I especially loved some of the cardigans, sweaters, and tops; here, here and here
Other regular mall shops located on 5th: The Gap, Abercrombie, Hollister, and Banana Republic.

Mid-Ranged Clothing
these stores are priced with clothing going typically 50 dollars and up.

Zara: Lately, Zara has had amazing jackets that are perfect for winter. The store's multi-level allows easy shopping with lots of space to move around (which can be an issue in some of these stores).  This isn't a store you pass up in NYC! Check out this fur jacket
P.S. They are having a major sale online:  www.zara.com

Saks Fifth Avenue: I know, I know, most of the store has expensive clothing, jewelry, and handbags but there are ways around it.  On the first floor, it's filled with the typical department store but with more options. Downstairs is a makeup, sunglass, and perfume haven.  With every single cosmetic option, you are bound to buy a new product. Also, upstairs they have a level of cheaper (ish) clothing with luxurious sub-brands. aka: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Frye Sale boots, etc. They make sure to divide it so it's easy to shop without stumbling upon an item that's unaffordable.

Juicy Couture: When most think of Juicy, they think of the cheesy velour bags that many middle schoolers purchased back in the day. Yes, I was one of them too. Yet now that Juicy is expanding, the clothing they sell is amazing and somewhat affordable.  Instead of track suits, Juicy is starting to sell the essentials; tanks, tees, coats (or here too), etc.

Also, stop into the more luxurious stores such as Bergdorfs, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Bendls, and Tiffany's just to window shop in heaven!

NYC's best: FOOD

one of the biggest parts of our trip to the big city?  eating.

breakfast
H&H Bagels are the bomb.  Us Whitefish Bay-ers thought Brueggers had the bagel down to a T...we were wrong.
(81st and 2nd ave)

lunch
My mom and I's favorite place to snack in the city is located on the third floor of the men's department in Bergdorf Goodmans.  They have the best sandwiches, salads, and in particular; chicken salad.  Right on fifth ave., it's perfect to get away from the hustle on the streets.

This italian restaurant, Grotta Azzurra, is perfect for either lunch or dinner.  Located on the brink of little Italy and Soho, you can enjoy traditional gnocchi and fettucine and then do some heavy duty shopping in all the awesome boutiques in Soho.  aaaamazing.

dinner
Coming from a Persian descent, my mom and her sisters are always cooking up the family's favorite Iranian dishes. (and as my aunt says: a meal without rice is just a snack.) Although, whenever we're in New York we always hit up the Persian Restaurant, aka: Persepolis NYC.  We indulged in Saffron Chicken, Caspain- the duo of the saffron chicken and kubideh kabob, and the lamb kabob. all of which come with the best dill rice. nom nom nom!
(73rd and 2nd ave)

dessert
between the persian desserts and the many cupcakes downed- it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of my first semester of college...and the finals that came along with it!

the cupcake stands
everywhere we went, there were cupcake stands next to hot dog stands. or cupcake trucks. or cupcake stores.  my sweet tooth has never been more satisfied since we went to Crumbs- where they had the perfect holiday cupcake: the peppermint hot cocoa.  located right next to grand central station, it's a must to go. (luckily they are also located in Chicago) and whoever thought of making cupcakes go mobile,  Cupcake Stop- we point to you, they had every single kind of cupcake in sight. heaven!

montclair, NJ
we also headed down to montclair to visit family, where we had our final moment of dessert heaven.  Nutella Pies at Ah'Pizz.  They cut the pizza dough in half and inserted nutella into a full sized pie and topped it with powdered sugar.

we may of eaten a lot in NYC, but that was just the kick off to a food-filled break.  let Seattle begin!

Secret Santa Picks!

This year, my friends and I decided to do a mini-secret santa.  I live a few blocks away from an Anthropologie and have always envied the mugs, so I decided to buy each one of them a mug and fill it up with one of their amazing smelling soaps.  Luckily enough, they all remembered my elephant obsession and I received an Elephant Bottle Stopper and a Elephant Pillow Pet.  Not only this, but they remembered to buy me oreos- truly great friends.
